 001. rules and regulations

• • • rules and regulations

Here at Radio War, we want you to have a place to relax and write without having to worry about breaking a million rules. That's why we aren't going to give you a page and a half of points to follow, 'cause hey -- no one really reads them anyway.

There are just a few things you need to follow, and everything will be hunky dory.
★ Be mature, be intelligent, don't be banal -- use your head. E-drama is pretty lame, but put a few hormonal artists in one room together and you're bound to have a cat fight break out. Just keep it to PMs.

★ Discrimination ain't cool. Everyone can enjoy an offensive joke now and then, but know when to draw a line. Basically, if you are some kind of bigot, learn to keep it to yourself.

★ We have no limits around here, but to protect the squeamish, make sure to mark your topic clearly with a warning if it is going to contain mature content. Since sex and violence tend to be pretty spontaneous, we've made it so everyone can edit their topic title and description. You're welcome.

★ Be sensible about your graphics. If they stretch out the board, resize them.

★ Ghost accounts make us want to break some kneecaps. If you aren't going to be active for a while ('while' meaning more than a week,) make sure to tell us so we don't worry you have been kidnapped by a foot fetishist.

★ The secret phrase is 'winged/wicked things' (updated 10/07/08.)

★ Please only post offsite links - or advertise - in the specified forums.

Register before applying. Do not post in any forum other than the gazette/support boards until you are accepted.

★ Do us a favor and don't lose your cool if you are placed in a group lower than you anticipated. Our goal is to help you improve, not to shatter your ego. We will always give you helpful, unbiased critique when we place you. Regard it, practice, reaudition.

★ Finally, while this is not a rule, it would be very awesome if you could introduce yourself once you have been accepted, just so we know who the hell you are.

 002. about / group criteria

NOTE Radio War is primarily a writing forum, not a role-playing forum. By no means do you have to be a role-player to join; the role-playing forums are simply there for those who enjoy it from time to time.

raconteur//
Masters of the English language, rarely surpassed in knowledge and style, few and far between; these writers leave you speechless. Their stories capture you and tug at your heartstrings. Their characters are realistic, close to jumping out of the page. They are the mac to your cheese, the cherry to your whip cream. They're, needless to say, the masters of storytelling (but by no means perfect!)

clarion//
These writers have stepped into themselves: they have developed a clear, beautiful style and know exactly where they stand as a writer. Characters are believable and original. Grammar and spelling errors are rarely stumbled upon if ever, and they know how to keep a hold on the audience. Stylistic errors may be frequent but easily fixable. Their writing draws attention easily.

dilettante//
These writers have a fair grasp on the English language, though their writing is likely commonplace; they have yet to develop their own original style. Grammar errors are common though not abused, characters are beginning to develop a firm personality and sentence structure is often repetitive. Sentences may be wordy or hindered. They are beginning to experiment with diction and plot twists.
apprentice;;
The absolute beginner, the start of the food chain. Writing is often riddled with grammar and spelling errors, plots are basic and character development, as well as post length, is minimal. These writers have a surplus of potential yet to be unearthed, and are encouraged to practice, practice, practice!

 003. the faq

• • • frequently asked questions

Q. Who are the administrators?
    A. The administrators are Caleb (fine young cannibals, [subject to change]) Zander (bloodless) and Stormee (Secret Skin.)
Q. How do I change the layout?
    A. Two ways. The first and most simple is to use the drop down menu at the bottom of the site; the second is to change it from your profile.
Q. Can I be an admin?
    A. No.
Q. How do I audition/where do I post my audition?
    A. We require only a simple audition to be able to start posting. All you have to do is create a new thread in the audition forum following the form we have given you. The audition forum can be found here. Please do not post in any of the subforums, only in the root audition/'getting placed' forum. Moving auditions gets a little tedious after a while.
Q. What are your standards?
    A. This is a bit of a difficult question to answer, as the standards vary from group to group. The standards for each group are outlined here. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask an administrator or a member of the audition staff.
Q. What are 'RT?'
    A. 'RT' are 'radio tokens' or points. Find out all of the different ways you can earn RT here.
Q. I hate my group! Can I be in another one?Q. Caleb, why do you keep making forums?
    A. Because I have nothing better to do. ): And because some pushy people (Derek) keep making me.
Q. What are the 'user portfolios' for?
The user portfolios are there for you to show off your written work. (: Fanfiction, original fiction and poetry are all welcome. When you move up a group, your gallery will be moved as well with a message and congratulations from administration. While you can receive feedback in your portfolios, the R&R forums are the designated area for serious critique.
Q. Why the hell did you name this site Radio War?
Because when Derek and I were brainstorming names that was the one that won the virtual coin toss. The name has absolutely no relevance to anything, look how scene we are. Also it is an Iron and Wine song, go listen to it.
Q. I have a question that isn't mentioned in the FAQ!
Please contact a member of the administration; we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
